In The Day of Colonial Wigmaker

This has been the hardest day ever.My parents said I had to get a job. At least I’m choosing the job.The job I chose was a wigmaker. the first day was the hardest thing I’ve done, first I had to shave the costumer head,( here’s the hard part) I had to mesure their head five different ways, next they choose a hair style, then I dust it with sand and soak it in oil.I put it in the oven to dry.Once the hair is strong  I had to weave it on to a frame or a model of the persons head to get the style right. Then I had to weave from the back to the front.yearly I have to powder the wigs with perfumed powder.Next I had to tighten the curls ,and clean with sand or flour, then I had recomb it.well time for another day at work.

  1. Hi Lauren
It was interesting to read how they make wigs. I wouldn’t like it if my parents said I had to get a job now at my age, 10! I think we have a better life now than it was back in those times. Learning about those times is interesting to find out what they did and how their life used to work.

  2. HI Laruryn i am Hailey and i am 9 years old i like your story about the wig maker but i would have a different job i would choose to be a vet because I get to see dogs and lots of people had horses and donkeys. You could look after the horses for people.

    • but in the “old days” they did not have vets or normal vets if you took care of horses or donkeys you would have a high risk of getting harmful and deadly diseases and you would be bitten, scratch, kicked.
